Communicating with real patients
Tuesday, May 20, 2014 @ 4:33 pm
Stressed right now.
Don't know if I'm up to DAA competency.
Some people really have no issues communicating.
I feel I shouldn't have such issues too.
I mean its just talking right.
I feel like I'm good at it what.
It's just that the difference in situations, you can't really just blindly follow the protocols you've learnt in class.

I hear success stories about how people conduct diet histories.
They seem relatively simple to conduct, theory wise.
But when I'm actually standing up there, all alone.
Fending for myself.
It becomes abit hard.
I have so much to fulfill as a student dietitian.
Facing the competency stuff, but yet taking my time to learn on the job.
But I feel that it isn't giving us enough time to be comfortable and take our time on the experience.
There's always a shortage of patients.
The staff are all really busy.

Okay, while I'm typing this out
I'm aware of my constant "in denial" and being defensive stage.
I'm trying to work on that.
I feel that as a student, on a first time ward placement, it will be alright to make mistakes.
It's okay to slip up, but I must learn from such experiences, so that I can move on from it,

Sounds so challenging when you think about it now.
I really hope I'll be fine.
Gosh.

Tomorrow heading down to the wards again.
Fingers crossed.

Things to take note of:
1) open and closed questioning
2) weight history
3) check with patient if they're okay first, then read case notes.

Give yourself time to improve Clar, it sounds challenging, but I'm sure you can do it.
YOU HAVE TO DO IT.
